"You
must go into my workroom, get the apple off of my workbench, and
bring it back to me," Gregorio told him. "Oh, and no
flying allowed," he added quickly, just to be sure.
"Very well," replied
Understump. "I'll return shortly."
The Cabinetmaker waited. He
expected that, at any moment, he would hear the little cries of
the trapped fairy coming from the workroom. And so he waited. And
waited. And, suddenly, from under his chair, Gregorio saw a
shiny, red apple roll out onto the floor.
"One apple," said
Understump.
The Cabinetmaker couldn't believe
it. How could his trap fail to catch the fairy?
"Impossible," he muttered as he jumped up from his
chair and ran to his workroom to see how Understump had managed
to get the apple without getting stuck. He opened the door and
saw his bench, surrounded by glue, with the apple still sitting
on it.
